What affects a rubber flooring quotation in Malaysia?
A price per square metre is only useful when you know what it includes. A clear brief makes quotations easier to compare and helps identify work that might otherwise appear later as an extra.
1. Measured area and layout
Send the length and width of each area, with units clearly marked as metres, feet, square metres or square feet. Include a sketch for irregular rooms and mark columns, drains and fixed equipment.
The net floor area is not necessarily the ordered material quantity. Tile layout, perimeter cuts, patterns and a replacement allowance can affect the order. Ask the supplier to show the allowance rather than assuming every quotation uses the same calculation.
2. Material, format and build-up
Interlock mats, heavy-duty mats and playground tiles are different product routes. A specified wet-pour system also includes materials and installation steps that a loose mat supply does not.
Record the product, nominal format, thickness and any specified layers. Where the intended performance matters, ask which documentation supports the proposal. A cheaper line item may be a different scope rather than an equivalent solution.
3. Existing floor and drainage
Provide close-up photographs of cracks, loose finishes, uneven areas and moisture concerns. Clarify whether old flooring must be removed and whether repairs are included. A new finish should not be assumed to solve underlying movement or drainage problems.
For outdoor areas, mark drainage outlets and surrounding levels. Ask whether the quotation covers base preparation and drainage work or assumes that another contractor will provide a ready base.
4. Delivery, access and installation
Share the postcode, floor level, lift availability, unloading access and any restricted working hours. An occupied building may need phased work or protection of surrounding areas. Include the date by which the floor needs to be ready for use, not just the desired start date.
Ask whether the price covers supply only or supply and installation. Check delivery, handling, fixing materials, perimeter finishing, waste removal and any applicable taxes as separate scope items where relevant.
